Rinnai RD-600CG gas dryer repair

I have this Rinnai gas dryer since 2007. It has served us well until last year August when it stopped working. When there is any loading in the dryer, it will not operate and the drum will not turn. When there is no load, the drum may turn. So, in the end, we have to let the drum turn and then load in the clothes, few pieces at a time.

After the CNY, I think it is better to get the specialist to look into this. Talking to the technical guy at Rinnai, it seems that the capacitor is faulty and needs to be replaced. The cost is about $90 (labour & Transport charges) + $25 (capacitor). He recommends to replace the motor fan belt ($58).

The appointment is scheduled for today at 10am and the technician arrives on time.

The repair work takes about 1 hour. Total bill cost is $185.11. The service is acceptable and I recommend people with problems on the gas dryer to call them (+65 6748 9011).

I have been using this gas dryer and so far, besides the capacitor issue, I think it is a good investment if you don't want to hang your clothes on poles to dry. As it uses gas to create the heat to dry the clothes, there is no weird smell and the drying process takes less then 40 minutes with full load. It saves on electricity as a typical electric dryer will take about 2 hours.

  1. Hi! Doing some research on gas dryers. Is there a specific location you can leave the dryer at? Can I build a vented cupboard around it?

  2. The dryer needs space to ventilate. Hot air and wet air needs to escape. Not a good idea to build any cupboard around it.

  3. The dryer should be installed at well-ventilated areas such as near the kitchen window or service balcony/yard. In my case, the dryer is placed on a rack above the washing machine. However, the exhaust is opposite the window and sometimes due to the wind direction, the hot moist air could not escape through the window. There is an exhaust on the top of the dryer which you may check with the vendor whether a ducting can be extended from this exhaust towards the window.

    1. No problem, glad that my blog can help. City Gas still uses this same model at the moment. I have feedback to them to see whether there is a smaller size model with width at 60cm, same like washing machine. My new place has an area that is too small for the current model.

    3. Hi JazzM, no problem. Maybe you can ask the serviceman to check your capacitor too. I had the capacitor melt-down issue.

  7. Hi, can it dry any types of clothes without shrinking?

  8. Hi..you will have to check each individual piece of clothing label for symbols. For me, I will dry cotton. Also read the instr manual for the dryer - help prlong machine usage. Hipe that helps.
